Subject:
Exporting fish and crayfish
The following email was
received from the south Pacific trade Commission:
- New suppliers are best
advised to sell their fish via the central auctions at the Sydney Fish Markets.
170 buyers attend these auctions on a regular basis.
- Pricies fluctuate daily
based on supply.
- Buyers want to see consistent
regular supply before dealing directly with the seller
- Price for these species
last year ranged from $6 to $10 per kg for good quality fresh fish. The emphasis
here is on good quality, and fresh not frozen.
- Any fish coming into
Australia will be subject to mandatory testing for mercury, salmonella, and
histomine by AQIS. This testing costs around $200 to $300 per consignment.
- The importer must also
poses an importers licence.
Frozen Crayfish tails bring
around AU $35 to 40 in Australia.
With all these products
the buyers would require a consistent supply.
