The
National Government of Solomon Islands always see foreign
investors as important partners in the development of the
country's economy. With its vast natural resources, foreign
investors have plenty of choices to engage their productive
resources in areas like fisheries, forestry, agriculture and
tourism. With the introduction of the new investment act 2005
and regulation 2006, the facilitation of foreign investment
will now be more transparent, easy to manage and definitely
will give confidence to those who want to invest in the country.
While
investors will find attractive investment opportunities in
various economic sectors, it is paramount that proper consultations
with the national government, the resources owners and other
stalk holders is well established for the successful implementation
of investment projects. Investment projects that feature the
following outcomes will be encouraged and well supported by
the national government.
- Strengthening
the technical and marketing expertise of the private sector
-
Maximize the use of local raw materials in the production
stages
-
Promote export and import substitutes
-
Create employment and training to the local people.
- Integrate
or transfer knowledge and technology to the country's economic
system.
-
Have a vision to long term investment.
In
fact the National Government is seriously considering investment
projects that will benefit the rural populace. Projects that
have a wider spin off benefits will be pursued, supported
and encouraged.
Foreign
Investors are assured that doing business in Solomon Islands
is safe, free from political interference and although challenging,
benefits are comparable to or better than most of the Island
nations.
