Mangakiki Families Teak project was started in 2001. Total number of hectare planted which are 3 years old is 26/ha and planting still continue.
Land tenure system is customary but not disputed because the families own land. These families have acquired technique and knowledge how to manage and look after Teak plantation after the Solomon Islands Forestry Project Management has conducted a 2 days workshop at the Project location in March 2003 covering Teak nursery Silviculture of teak ect..
The project has an official committee with elected Office Bearers of a Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary and Committee members.
The project is interested in:

  • 1. Buyers with funds for maintenance at the early stage of the plantation.
  • 2. Buyers with genuine interest on harvesting proposals which can be negotiated.
  • 3. Funding Agencies which can provide fund for forestry project or reforestation.
Project location: Mangakiki Village, West Guadalcanal 30Km from Honiara and can be reached by boat or by vehicle.

A teak farmer located on the Island of Choiseul is looking for any interested buyers of teak wood who can assist him in maintaining the plantation. The area contents 1000 trees of height 7m and covering an area of 5 hectares. Visits are welcome.

As prohibited species, SJRD will be the only company issued to harvest this species in the Solomon Islands.
